I took a day off Friday to tackle a job I have been putting off for quite a while. To start I got the pressure washer back from my dad and I cleaned off my nasty black decks. Now with the weather somewhere near perfect I needed to address a few boards that were starting to rot and to add a sealer back to the exposed wood. My wife thought that I have bitten off more than I could chew. But after my three years of experience I figured I could handle it. I replaced 6 steps on the back side of the house. And I replaced two stringers on the front of the house. The steps were the easy part. I mean how hard is it to measure and cut a 3 foot length of board. The stringer were starting to split down the middle and were looking pretty bad. I took the screws out and got to the rotten wood. I decided to buy a 2 x 12 and cut the stringers myself using the old ones as a template. My skill saw really didn't like try to cut the angles on the board but with a little help from my jigsaw I got it done. Now I don't have to worry about the stairs falling out from under me any longer. It was a long day and at the end well worth it. I got to look back on what I was able to accomplish with only YouTube training.
